Full details, including schedule, can be found below.
The Basics
The Middle School Forensics Fest is expected to be a fairly gentle Public Forum tournament to end the season on and is open to middle and high school competitors. This is our first year participating in this tournament as this is the first year it has been available. Our expectation is that our students have a good chance of distinguishing themselves. All students will compete in the same open division of their event.
Speech and debate tournaments are an all day activity. Expect your student to be there for each round.
We will also provide at least one more update the week before the tournament via email.
Registration
All tournament registration is first come, first served. For partnered events, student registration is considered complete when both partners have registered and paid. REGISTRATION FOR ALL EVENTS WILL CLOSE AT NOON on October 17th.
Debate
Public Forum will be debating the NSDA September/October topic regarding the Surveillance Infrastructure.
All debaters can expect four guaranteed rounds on Saturday.
Judging
This tournament does not require volunteer judges. If you would like you volunteer your time, please email us at Info@STRTGM.org.
EACH JUDGE IS OBLIGATED FOR EVERY ROUND IN THEIR EVENT. THIS MEANS THAT IT IS POSSIBLE THAT YOU WILL BE COMMITTED TO JUDGE AFTER YOUR STUDENT HAS BEEN ELIMINATED. If no students remain at the end of preliminary rounds on Sunday morning, you will be required to judge at least the first elimination round Sunday.
Tournaments take this volunteer commitment extremely seriously and will assess fines if you have volunteered to judge a round but do not show up. Unfortunately, we will have to pass fines on to the volunteer who incurred them. Fines at this tournament start at $50 per missed round.
Dress Code & Tournament Necessities
All tournaments have a business formal dress code. Girls are expected to wear a blouse, skirt or slacks, a jacket and appropriate shoes. Boys are expected to wear a formal shirt, slacks, a jacket and tie, and appropriate shoes. Everyone should also bring a heavier jacket and a comfortable pair of shoes for downtime.
Students competing in all debate events must bring copies of their cases, their evidence file, extra paper, and pens. This tournament allows use of electronic devices but disallows use of the internet during competition.
Schedule
The most up to date schedule can be found here. All times are Pacific Standard Time.
